I grew up in a healthy family, eating right and moving constantly. However, it wasn't until college that I came to learn the value of lifting weights and increasing muscle mass. I was sick of being 'a skinny guy' and swung the pendulum to become a 'meathead' instead, upping my bench press and eating an absurd amount of protein powder. I moved to Texas shortly after college and saw CrossFit on TV... how could these guys/gals lift 400# and walk on their hands? I was hooked and tried to learn everything myself, but didn't have the means to afford a membership at the time. Fast forward to March 2020 and it was time to join a community, rather than just a big box gym. I found Stratum with a Google search and immediately felt included during my first class. My favorite things about Stratum are the amazing people, the focus on safety/longevity, and the friendly competition that pushes me to get fitter and stay healthy every day.
People say 2020 was a tough year (and understandably so!), but 2019 was much tougher for me. I battled with heavy depression, which in part led to a lost job and a divorce. At that time, I wasn't eating much and I wasn't moving at all. I had lost over 30 pounds (mostly muscle) and was unhealthy physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. I had no desire to work out. When I hit my rock bottom, part of my holistic healing process included daily movement. I got back into running and lifting weights, and found Stratum a few months later... and I'm so glad I did! I believe physical health is deeply connected to health in all other areas of life.
I love coaching for longevity! I'm not the most experienced coach, but I sure do love helping with the small progressions that our members make every day. Seeing you all work so hard inspires me, and I'm grateful to be a Stratum coach!
