For most of my childhood, I wasn't a huge fan of exercising or anything to do with health and fitness. I was an overweight kid who hated when the physical fitness tests came during middle school and high school. My diet also consisted of Carl's Juniors and Mexican food, and I don't think I ate a vegetable till I graduated High School. During High School, some of my friends convinced me to join the cross country team, and even though I had never run before in my life I decided to give it a try. At the end of my high school career, I had many last places finished but LOVED the team and community aspect. Once spring rolled around I was on the golf team where I excelled probably because it didn't involve much athletic ability. After graduating high school in 2010 I tried out for a college golf team and unfortunately did not make the team. Afterward, I spiraled into depression and I gained 30 pounds in one semester of college. I finally decided to get my life together after a breakup. I took a lifting class and spent most of my nights on Youtube learning about everything to do with health and fitness. For the rest of college, I dabbled in powerlifting, Olympic weight lifting, bodybuilding, yoga, obstacle course races, and even ran a marathon. Fast forward to 2016, I discovered Stratum Fitness when I moved from Iowa to San Diego to pursue a career in music therapy. The community was so friendly and the workouts matched my goals and views on health and fitness. I quickly found myself going to as many classes as I could per week and learning as much as I could about functional fitness. In 2021 I became co-owner of Stratum and a CF-L2 coach at the gym. I coach group classes a few times a week and coach a handful of personal training clients. Coming to the gym and coaching brings me more joy than anything else in my life has ever provided. I love seeing our community grow and watch each member become the healthiest and fittest version of themselves.
I love watching others succeed and improve their health and fitness. Nothing gets me more excited than giving a member a coaching cue that helps them hit a new personal record or when I hear news of a member losing weight or gaining muscle with some of the tips and lessons our coaches having given them.
